The Internet has opened the doors to make thousands of dollars from the comfort of your home/hostel/room.

There are ten online jobs for students. I’ve listed & explained in detail below.
- Micro Work
- Affiliate Marketing
- Article Writing
- Sell Stock Photos
- Be a Youtuber
- Buy Sell Domains
- Do User Testing
- Sell Used Books
A lot of students are getting obsessed with the news such as someone is making thousands of dollars on the Internet, or young student had made millions in just six months using a laptop, etc.
Yes. You can also make such money too.
But you have to work your ass off; you have to learn the things, you have to put in work, you must have passion, you must have skills, dedication, patience, persistence.
Getting obsessed & dreaming of a better life will NOT work.
You should have at least one skill that you are passionate about. You must have a passion to convert that skill into money making machine.
I’ve explained above ten methods easily. Read them carefully and choose one to start with.
Easy Work = Low Income & Hard Work = High Income
Let’s get started!
A microwork is doing a little amount of work for a little amount of money.
If you have a skill, you can sell it on the microwork platforms. One of my favorite micro work platforms is Fiverr.com
On the Fiverr, you can sell almost any skill.
You might be expert in making a powerpoint presentation, designing a logo, identifying grammar mistakes, creating a website, etc.
You’ll make money depending on the demand for your skills.
A service sold on the Fiverr is called as a ‘Gig.’ You could quickly create a gig by doing registration on the Fiverr. You can set a price of your gig starting from $5.
I have six steps blueprint to be successful on Fiverr.
- Identify your Skills
- Find already selling gigs
- Analyze the high performing gigs
- Create a better gig than available ones
- Promote it on the social media & blogs
- Provide high-quality service & get a good feedback
1. Identify your Skills:
Do you know your skills?
If yes, then good. If you don’t know just ask yourself, What am I passionate about? Which are the things I know better? What can I teach someone?
You’ll get plenty of ideas.
As I’ve already said, You might be expert in designing website, graphics, logo, making impressive powerpoint presentations, proofreading, video editing, etc.
You can make money with almost any skill on Fiverr.
Fiverr has these eight main categories. Check if your skill set would fit under any of these categories.
- Video & Animation – Whiteboard Explainer, Animated Logo, Short Video Ads, Video Editing, etc.
- Graphic & Design – Logo, Cartoons, Infographics, Social Media, Book Covers, Flyers, Photo Editing, etc.
- Digital Marketing – SEO, PPC, Content, Social Media, Video, Email, E-Commerce, etc.
- Writing & Translation – Article Writing, Resume, Copywriting, Translation, Transcription, etc.
- Music & Video – Voice Over, Music Mixing, Songwriting, Composing, etc.
- Programming & Tech – Creating WordPress/HTML/E-Commerce sites, Programming, IT Support, Testing, etc.
- Business – Legal/Finance Consulting, Virtual Assistants, Career Advice, Business Plans, etc.
- Fun & LifeStyle – Sketching, Interior Design Ideas, anything funny & challenging, mimicry, etc.
Once you know your skills, you have to find whether it has the demand or not.
2. Find already selling gigs:
Go to Fiverr & search gigs by entering your skill name in the search bar. E.g., Logo Designing
You will get already selling gigs. As you are new on the platform, just check out how it is working, how other people have listed their gigs.
Most importantly, Checkout the number of orders (highlighted in the above image). A high number of orders mean more demand.
Don’t dive into “PRO” tagged gigs, as these are for highly expert people.
3. Analyze the high performing gigs:
Check out the gigs with the higher number of orders & good feedback (rated out of five). Analyze every bit of information.
As you are a student, you don’t know anything about Fiverr & you are a newbie in the online money-making world.
So, Analyzing the gigs will help you to understand the Fiverr platform.
You should analyze the things such as:
- How has the description written?
- How are the prices given?
- Which extra services are they offering?
- Which are FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) given?
- What is the feedback given by customers?
This analyzation would also help you to create a gig.
4. Create a better gig than available ones
You have analyzed the gigs. Now, Its time to create one. If you haven’t registered on Fiverr, do the registration & create a gig.
You should create a better gig than those already available. Upload a good image, write an attractive title, compelling description, and, craft good pricing packages.
You can create a Fiverr gig with these six steps:
- Overview – Basic gig information. Write attention-grabbing title.
- Pricing – Pricing structure of the gig
- Description & FAQ – Write an attractive description and add FAQs
- Requirements – If anyone does buy your gig, what requirements you’ll need to complete order.
- Gallery – Attractive image + portfolio.
- Publish – Now, Publish your gig.
5. Promote it on the social media & blogs:
Once your gig is ready, promote it on all your social media accounts.
Join the Facebook & LinkedIn groups which are related to your service and promote your gigs.
If you have a blog, place a badge on the sidebar. You can find the badge under “Selling -> Promote Yourself” option in the Fiverr dashboard.
You can also create your custom badge there. Copy the code & paste on your website page.
6. Provide high-quality service & get good feedback:
You won’t get orders as soon as you create a gig. It will take a few days or even months to get your first sale. The promotion of your gig is an essential task.
If you promote your gig & if you get more eyeballs rolling in, you will receive your first order in just a couple of days.
After receiving an order, You MUST provide the high-quality services to your clients. Always give more than promised. It’ll make your clients happy.
You should always ask your clients to provide POSITIVE feedback after delivering an order.
When you get high-quality feedback from your clients, you’ll get more orders organically.
Freelancing is also a great type of work that could be done by sitting at home. It is very popular, and a lot of people are doing it for a living.
It is similar to the micro jobs.
A difference is that you’ll make a significant amount of money & you MUST provide very high-quality services when it comes to the Freelancing.
It is more professional and client expectations are very high (as compared to micro jobs).
In the micro jobs, a client will approach you for services, but in the freelancing, you have to approach a client & convince them to hire you for the job.
That’s why it is very difficult for a student to start freelancing work. It is really easy for a person who has an industry experience to start freelancing.
However, If you are ready to work hard with enough patience, you will get success.
There are multiple platforms to find the freelance jobs:
You can use any of these platforms to start a freelancing work. Of course, You must have good skills to work with these sites.
You can utilize any skills which I’ve mentioned in the Micro Jobs section.
I prefer working with UpWork, but they have become more strict and not accepting new job profiles easily. You have to be more professional while creating a profile on the UpWork.
So, As a student, you might not yet have that professionalism. Therefore, I would suggest using Freelancer platform
As a client, If I had to hire someone for my job, I would prefer a candidate with a good experience.
It means, If you want to get hired by a client, you must have to show a work experience to the potential client. And to do so, you have to build a portfolio.
There are three steps to start with Freelancing as a Student:
- Create a Portfolio
- Make your Profile Professional
- Pitch to the Potential Clients
1. Create a Portfolio:
First of all, Register for an account on freelancer.in
On the next screen, select the main category and choose your skills. Your work feed will show the jobs related to the chosen skills.
You’ll get the list of skills under the main category selection. You can add up to 20 skills.
Skip the payment method & professional plan page and go to dashboard.
You have to create a portfolio where you want to show past work. Almost every employer (with a nice budget) want to hire someone who has experience.
Your portfolio would speak up your experience. As a Student, You might not have any experience, but you have to show it off.
If you want to make money by developing websites, you should create 4-5 beautiful sites.
If you want to make money by developing Android apps, make 4-5 simple & high-quality Android apps.
It will take a few days or even months to build your portfolio, but it is worth it. While creating your portfolio, You can place a bid on small projects. (more on this later).
2. Make your Profile Professional:
Your profile should be professional & it should have all the important elements.
A profile should have:
- High-Quality Profile & Cover Photo
- Attention Grabbing Title
- Enticing Description
- Portfolio Items (Past Work)
- Verify Email, Mobile, Payment, etc.
- Add all the details such as Education, Experience, Qualification.
- Set your Hourly Working Rate
- Complete freelancer. In Certifications.
You should set hourly working rate low at first (less than $5). If you can provide high-quality results to the clients, you can also set the price higher (over $15 per hour).
A freelancer.in offers a few certification exams. You can give such certification exams to earn certificate completion badge.
3. Pitch to the Potential Clients:
It’s time to find WORK!
Click on the “Work” link from a navigation bar & head to “Projects with My Skills”. You can also choose “Browse Projects” if you want to search jobs with specific skills.
It will show you the list of available jobs. Click on the project title & read the description.
If you can complete that project bid your price & select number of days. Always bid on the projects that have verified client profile.
Don’t waste your time on bullshit projects & clients.
A client will contact If he finds your profile is suitable for the job. You should be responsive to the client’s messages.
If you get hired, deliver the project on time. Positive feedback is essential. It will improve your profile.
It is one of the best ways & my favorite way of making money online.
I regret that I have started it so late. If I had started when I was a student, Today, I would be making 3x more money.
You are a student & you should start blogging now. It is the right time.
A beauty of blogging is that it gives PASSIVE INCOME. You can make money even when you are SLEEPING.
Of course, that kind of money can’t come easily. At the first place, You have to work hard to start passive income flow.
Blogging would open a lot of doors to earn money. You can make money with multiple streams of income.
I’m making my most of income through Affiliate Marketing & AdSense.
An affiliate marketing is the most lucrative way of earning passive income. I’ll discuss it in the next method.
I am helping people by writing blog posts. I am solving the problems of the people by writing articles. Like I’m doing the same through this blog post.
You also have to do the same. You just have to create a blog & start helping people by writing high-quality articles.
But a lot of students stuck at the first step that is creating a blog.
It is a lot easier to create a blog & it takes less than 15 minutes.
There are five steps to create your blog:
- Decide a Blog Niche
- Find a Good Web Host
- Find a Domain Name
- Install WordPress
- Design Your Blog
1. Decide a Blog Niche:
This step is a base of your blogging journey. A blogging niche means a topic to blog about.
As a goal is to help people & solve their problems through writing, you should select a topic in which you are an expert.
Just ask yourself, What are you passionate about? What can you teach others in a better way? Which is one thing that you’ll enjoy writing?
I am an expert in teaching blogging, business and making money online. So, I started this blog to teach these things.
2. Find a Good Web Host:
A good web host provides 24/7 QUICK customer support, 99.99% uptime, security, faster site speed and affordable pricing.
I also host all my website on the SiteGround web hosting.
I recommend SiteGround especially to the beginners’ because it has really great customer support. They will solve any query within a few minutes.
Moreover, The hosting price is a meager cost. It starts at just Rupees 3000 per YEAR. (If you don’t have a domain, with a domain it would cost you approx Rs. 4000).
So, Just visit siteground.com & choose your plan.
If you are planning to host only one website, Choose “StartUp” plan and to host more than one website, Choose “GrowBig” plan.
Click on the “GET STARTED” button.
3. Find a Domain Name:
A domain is your website address. E.g., Mine is, strivemoney.in
Your domain name should be relevant to your niche, short in characters, easy to spell and remember. So, Choose it carefully.
If you already bought a domain from another company, select “I already have a Domain option” otherwise register your new domain with SiteGround.
Click on the “PROCEED” button.
4. Install WordPress:
The WordPress is an open source blog management platform (CMS). It is a free software which would help you to create and manage blog posts, design, and overall functionality.
It is being used by almost all big publications & has over 59% of market share. I also run all my website on the WordPress platform.
But it is a very tedious process to install WordPress as it requires file uploading, database creation & connection.
Fortunately, SiteGround has a one-click option to install WordPress software automatically.
While installation process is running, You have to set username & password for WordPress admin dashboard.
After successful WordPress software installation, log into your WordPress admin dashboard.
5. Design Your Blog:
The WordPress platform has a theme functionality. You can use a free theme available in the WordPress themes store.
In your WordPress dashboard, click on the “Appearance” from the sidebar and then click on the “Add New” button.
You’ll get a list of themes. You can also preview a theme before installation.
If you like it just click on the “Install” button & later “Activate”.
If you want to learn these steps in more detail, head to my blog post how to create a blog.
Once you set up your blog, you can write helpful articles for your audience. It’ll take a few months to get traffic to your website.
You can place Google Adsense ads on your blog to make money. Otherwise, An affiliate marketing is the best way earn online income.
An affiliate marketing is a marketing technique used by companies to increase product sales.
These companies provide unique product sales tracking link to the affiliate marketers.
If someone buys that product through that sales tracking link, affiliate marketer receives a commission in return.
Below image represents how affiliate marketing works:
Suppose, I have a company selling High-Quality Whey Protein Supplements and you are running a health/fitness blog. You’ve used our product & experienced good results.
Now, You want to make money by promoting whey protein supplement. So, I’ll give you a special affiliate link.
You started promoting that affiliate link by writing a blog or making Youtube videos.
Whenever A person buys that product through an affiliate link, you will receive a commission.
A commission could be fixed price or percentage of sells price. (It depends on a company).
It doesn’t matter a niche of your blog (unless you are helping & solving problems), there are affiliate programs for almost everything.
You just have to find them.
How to find affiliate programs?
The easiest way of finding an affiliate program is checking footer or header links on a product website.
Just check for “Affiliate Program”, “Affiliate Links”, “Partner Program”, etc.
Another way of finding affiliate program is doing a simple google search. Just type a “brand name” + “affiliate” & you are done.
E.g. “HealthKart Affiliate”
Once you know that your favorite brand is offering an affiliate program, Do register for an affiliate account. Later, create affiliate links & promote through a blog, video, social media, etc.
If you don’t know any brand, then you should use affiliate marketplaces. You would find an affiliate program for almost any niche.
These are a few affiliate marketplaces:
Sign up to any of these marketplaces & search for an affiliate program.
E.g., CJ affiliate marketplace “health” niche search:
I always promote the products that I’ve used personally & found helpful to me.
If you choose wrong products for the sake of making money, you’ll lose the trust of your audience. They might stop buying products recommended by you.
So, Be careful while promoting the products.
If you want to promote Flipkart products, check out my detailed guide to making money with Flipkart Affiliate.
How to promote affiliate products?
A blog is the best way to promote affiliate products. It will help you to gain more trust of the users.
You can also promote your blog posts on social media, Facebook or LinkedIn groups, Reddit, etc.
Uploading a video on Youtube regarding the product and adding an affiliate link in the description also be useful.
If you want to promote an affiliate link through blogging, here are three types of posts that will give you best results:
- Top List Post
- Review Post
- How-to Post
1. Top List Post:
List top number of items in a specific category. You can also add keyword “Best” to make it more useful.
E.g., Top 10 health supplements to gain weight, Top 5 Best Exercises to Lose Weight in 30 Days.
2. Review Post:
Write your opinions on a product. You should include every angle of the product, good, bad, everything.
E.g., MuscleBlaze Whey Gold Protein Review: Is it good to build lean muscles?
3. How-to Post:
Write a tutorial on something that will be helpful to your audience. You How-to tutorial should include step by step approach get specific results.
E.g., How to lose 5 Kg weight in one month without doing an exercise.
If you have good English writing skills, you can start article writing freelance career.
An article writing requires continuous focus & very less distraction. As a student, It seems difficult to manage time for writing articles.
If a client requires fast delivery, then it would create chaos.
However, if you can manage time, I would tell you briefly how to work as an article writer.
First, You should know how to write an article, and you can learn it from reading articles of others.
Medium.com is a nice publication where writers around the world contribute their high-quality work.
I would recommend signing up with medium & reading articles relevant to your interests. I also learned writing articles by reading & analyzing how do other people write.
Next step is getting freelance writing jobs.
You can bid & pitch to the potential client on Freelancer.in or Upwork. You can also create a gig on the Fiverr.
There are few freelance marketplaces dedicated to writers only:
You could register on these freelance writing marketplaces to get writing projects.
But at the first stage, you’ll get very low income. When you register with these sites, you will be assigned the lowest level.
And the lowest level has very low rates.
E.g., iWriter Standard level (A level you’ll get after registration) writing rates:
These are very low rates. If you want to earn good rates, you should get next level that is Premium level.
It requires 30 reviews from the clients with average 4+ stars to get the Premium level. It means you have to write 30+ articles.
And there is very less number of projects available for Standard Writer. So, It is challenging to reach Premium level.
So, What is the SOLUTION?
Suppose, You are running an online business & you need a writer to write blog posts. How would you know if a writer is a good fit to write blog posts for you?
It’s simple! First, You will check writer’s previous written blog posts. If you found he is a good writer, then you’ll hire him.
So, If you want to get hired, show your writing skills. Just start a blog & write good articles in your favorite niche.
Create a “Hire Me” page & add a contact form, samples, testimonials, and pricing per word.
The people are ready to pay minimum $0.10 to $0.20 per word if you are an OUTSTANDING writer.
That is minimum $200 (Rs. 12,000) for 2000 word article.
Do you like photography?
If you have the skill to capture great photos, then you can easily make money by selling stock photos.
The stock photos are different than our regular photos. A photo at the top of this blog post is a stock photo.
If you want to learn how exactly stock photos looks, visit depositphotos.com and search for anything.
E.g., I’ve searched for “food”. See below image.
The stock photos have high-demand as they are used by bloggers, website developers, businesses, etc.
There are a lot of stock photo marketplaces available:
You have to become a contributor to one of these sites. Every stock photos website has different requirements, rules, and commission structure.
You must read those rules before submitting your photos.

A few platforms need your real photo identities such as Driver Licence, Passport or any government issued identity card.
You also have to upload your stock images for a review.
Once they approve your account, you can submit more photos. Whenever someone downloads your photo, you will get a commission.
A lot of people around the world are utilizing Youtube to earn an online income. It is a great platform for students to make a decent income with low investment.

You should create high-quality videos by recording with the best camcorder, professional video editing and showing creativity.
It’ll take some time to get views, likes, and subscribers. Just keep doing it & never give up.
How to Monetize Youtube Videos?
You can monetize Youtube videos primarily with Adsense.
Recently, Google has imposed a new rule: The new channels will need to have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months to be eligible to show ads.
Therefore, It is quite difficult for a new Youtuber to start monetizing with Adsense. You MUST focus on creating high-quality, engaging, helpful content.
Until you become eligible to show ads, you can use affiliate marketing to earn money.
Also, Note that there is no guarantee that you’ll make a good income with Adsense.
There are some factors on which your Youtube income depends:
- Your content niche
- Number of views
- A country where your video has been viewed
- The current economic situation of that country
- Number of Ads available, etc.
So, Do not focus on making huge income with Youtube. Just give your BEST shot.

You can buy a domain for as low as $0.99 & sell it for thousands of dollars.
It is not an easy task. First, You have to find a domain that could have a high valuation. Later, You have to place a listing it on the domain buy-sell marketplace.
How to find a high-value domain name?
