The Internet is not reached to every corner of the world yet. There are a lot of people who want to build their online presence to survive. They have data in the files and catalogs.
So, The people who want to build their online presence hire data entry operators (online or offline) and ask them to get that data into a digital form (MS Word, MS Excel, PDF, Web-Based System, etc.).
This is the primary reason behind hiring data entry operators, but there are a lot of other causes too. I’ll explain those in the next section.

You also have to aggregate the captured data through automation software.
Most companies run surveys on different platforms and collect the data to analyze the market better. You also have to aggregate this data and create charts/graph based on it.
The employer might give you the name of the companies or persons. You have to research those companies/person and find the data such as company profile, number of employees, revenue, stakeholder information, etc.
The same thing applies to a topic (Topic Research).
The Data Scraping is also called as Web Scraping, Web Harvesting, or Web Data Extraction.
According to WebHarvy, It is a technique employed to extract large amounts of data from websites whereby the data is extracted and saved to a local file in your computer or to a database in the table (spreadsheet) format.

You should properly align the paragraphs, set right fonts/size, etc. Sometimes it may need editing. In that case, you should have proper grammar knowledge.
Well, Those are the eight types of data entry job. It doesn’t mean that you’ll get a job from the client that includes any of the above types.
The client may have different requirements, and you may need different skills.
An online data entry job is mostly offered by Medical and Diagnostic Labs, Office Administrative Services, Accounting and Tax Prep, and Local Governments.
If you want to do offline data entry, you may get positions like Data Entry Clerk, Data Entry Operator, Data Entry Specialist, or Data Entry Associate.
There four ways to find online data entry jobs:
- Freelancing Sites
- Job Portals
If you don’t know about Fiverr, It is a freelance marketplace where sellers sell their services starting from $5 or more. You have to signup on this platform to become a seller.
The services offered on this platform known as Gigs. So, You should signup on this platform, become a seller and create a data entry job gig.
The clients who need data entry service will check your profile and order a gig. After that, you have to complete the gig order, and you’ll receive money in your Fiverr account.
You can withdraw that money to PayPal account. That was the general overview of how Fiverr works.
If you don’t know how to create a gig, search “data entry” on the Fiverr platform. You’ll get the list of gigs.
Analyze different gigs and create yours. You’ll be competing with hundreds of other data entry people. So, It is crucial to creating a compelling gig.
It is difficult to get orders on Fiverr due to high competition but doesn’t give the excuse, keep patience, and work hard. Eventually, You’ll get an order.
Once you get an order, complete it within time and try to get five-star feedback.
Sign up on one of these platforms and create a profile. (Upwork has become stricter and not accepting inexperienced candidates. Try Freelancer).
After signing up, search “data entry” jobs and apply for one of them. Read the job title, description and analyze whether you could perform job perfectly.
After that, Post a bid. Read the bidding tips before applying. Read answers on the Quora or Post your questions. Just don’t give up!
There are plenty of job portals available today such Naukri, Shine, Quickr Jobs, MonsterIndia, Indeed, etc.
A problem with job portal is that the most jobs are offline. You can’t work from home. So, If you want to work from home, try Fiverr or Freelancing sites.
You can also filter the jobs on the job portals that let you work from home. Visit any job portal and search for “data entry” in the search bar.
Check out the description of each job. If you can work offline, apply for the job. If you can’t work offline, find out the online work opportunities.
A newspaper classified ad is the old way of finding the jobs, but it still works even today. So, Don’t forget to check a newspaper’s classified ads section.
Like online job portals, The newspaper ads mostly contains offline data entry jobs. So, It wouldn’t be the good option if you want an online data entry work.
The online data entry jobs are full of scam. There is a very high risk if you are finding a job through job portals and newspapers.
In case of freelancing sites, the risk is low, and in case of Fiverr, the risk is zero as the client has already paid money for the service.
The people are posting fake job post on the job portals. They’ll show you an attractive pay, low registration fees and the naive people (mostly students) get cheated as they’ll never provide you any job.
Even if they provide, they’ll never pay you a single dime.
If any website is asking you to pay registration fees (even if it is 1 rupee), stay away. Don’t pay money to get that job. I’ve seen the websites asking for thousands of rupees to get these data entry jobs.
They just create a simple website, add some attractive pricing pages and advertise on Google. The people pay them money and never earn a single rupee in return.
I can quickly identify the scam data entry site by looking at their design, URL, Pricing pages, etc.
They have Quirky site design, No HTTPS (no green bar in browser URL), low-quality graphics (logos, images, etc.), 1990’s font and design, fake payment proofs, personal bank account numbers instead of company account, big pricing plans, etc.
Be mature! Use your common sense! You can easily spot a data entry job scam.
Here are some images which show fake and scam site:
Fake Payment Proof:
I mean come on, why should I consider a cheque as a payment proof.
Big Pricing: (Even if it is small, just ignore, it’s a scam)
I would never pay Rs. 12,000 or Rs. 20,000 for a data entry job so you.
Well, Stay away from scams, never pay money for a job.
The online data entry jobs are virtual assistant freelancing jobs. You should have good typing skill to do this type of work.
There are plenty of different data entry types. Each has some skills and tools. You should master these tools.
I would recommend using Fiverr or any freelancing website to find out online data entry work. If you are comfortable working offline, going to the office, try job portals and newspapers.
Don’t pay money to get online data entry job. There are a lot of scam sites. Just use your common sense and be aware!
